BOOK - WILLIAM DANA BARTLETT’S MIAMI DIGGER
This is currently the only book devoted exclusively to digger history. It specifically gives the history of the beginning of “carnival” digger operations with William Bartlett’s invention and subsequent operation of the “Nickel Diggers” from the late 1920’s until 1951. The booklet is a 43 page summary of the times, and gives accounts of other diggers and their history with the early carnival shows, including how the fateful Interstate Transportation Act of 1951 affected the extinction of many diggers. There are 13 old photos and illustrations included which are found nowhere else.(click image for sample)
